Planning To Change Career? Don’t Do It Without These 3 Things

Changing career is possibly the biggest decision in one’s life. It is very scary and the entire future looks uncertain.  This is the sole reason why many people, even when knowing it’s a right choice, don’t find the courage to steer their career direction to the desired path.

If you have finally decided to make this big change in your life, kudos!

But here are 2 general rules: don’t rush AND always have a Plan B.

That being said, here are 3 things without which changing your career in midway could turn into a bad decision:

1. A Network Of Reliable People

Mentioned already, it’s a BIG decision. And you can’t (and shouldn’t) go about on it all by yourself. Having a reliable network of people who can guide you through the process is very important. Knowing someone who is in the industry where you are migrating would be even more helpful. So before you make the actual move, get in contact with few people, talk to them, tell them about your plans and ask them to help you find more opportunities.

2. A Relevant Certification

Getting a (good) job in a new industry is going to be difficult. You’re going to have to prove it to the recruiters that you’re worth their time and opportunity. And this you cannot do by showcasing your experience in a niche that they aren’t even remotely related to. So if it would be immensely helpful if you complete some kind of relevant courses. For example, if you’re moving to the analytics industry, having business intelligence certification on your portfolio would help your case. These days you can easily find many good and job-guaranteed business intelligence analyst courses of top academies.

3. Long-Term Planning

Just to make sure you don’t find the need to change your career again in the future, having a long-term plan is imperative. You need to at least outline the plan for the next 5 years of your new career path how you’re going to work in this industry, how you will grow your knowledge and salary package, how will you bag promotions and how will you get to the top of the ladder. Have a definite answer to such questions. The clearer you are about your future path, easier the ride would be for you.

These are 3 things you need to have before you actually make a move to change your career. It would improve your chances of success.
